Why Home Maintenance Should Be Your Top Priority
10 January 2024 · 3 min read

The honest case for spending a small amount on a home regularly, instead of a large amount on it occasionally.
We see two types of homes: ones where someone spends a couple of hundred pounds a year keeping ahead of niggles, and ones where the bill is held back for five years and then arrives in the form of a structural surveyor. The first is dramatically cheaper.
Why small > big
- A £40 re-seal beats a £400 floor repair after a slow leak.
- An hour clearing gutters beats a week of internal damp drying out.
- A serviced boiler in autumn beats a 'no heat in January' emergency call-out.
How to make it painless
We recommend twice-a-year list days for most of the homes we look after. You keep a running note of niggles, send it to us, and we knock through the lot in a half-day. The home stays ahead of itself, and you stop having that low-level guilt about the wonky shelf.
