The small handful of jobs that quietly make the biggest difference to how a Sussex home feels and works.
After ten-plus years in and out of homes around Horsham, the same handful of jobs keep coming back as the ones with the biggest payoff per hour spent. None of them are glamorous. All of them quietly transform how a place feels.
1. Refresh the walls properly
Not 'one quick coat'. Filling, sanding, caulking and a proper two-coat finish in a quality emulsion. The difference between a botched and a good paint job is, oddly, mostly in the prep.
2. Sort the bathroom seals
Black silicone around a bath isn't a hygiene problem you can scrub out — it's a sign water has got behind it. A proper strip and re-seal takes a couple of hours and resets the bathroom for years.
3. Hang things straight, into something solid
Curtains, mirrors, shelves, TVs. All of them feel cheap when they sag. All of them feel premium when they don't. The difference is finding the studs (or proper masonry fixings) and using a level.
4. Doors that work
Doors that catch on the carpet, latch awkwardly or don't shut properly are a daily annoyance you stop noticing — until they're fixed. Easing a door is usually 20 minutes' work for someone with a planer.
5. A 'small jobs' list-day, twice a year
We see this in our most-loved homes: people keep a running note in their phone of niggles, then book us in for a half-day every six months to clear it. The home stays ahead of itself instead of slowly falling behind.
