Made-to-Size Curtains, Installed Properly

Made-to-measure curtains are heavier and fussier than off-the-shelf — here's how to hang them so they last.
Made-to-size curtains drape better, last longer and look noticeably more grown-up than ready-mades — but they're heavier, and they punish a sloppy install. We fit a lot of them around Horsham, and the rules are simple.
Pick the right pole or track
Heavy lined curtains want a 28 mm pole minimum, or a corded track rated for the weight. Cheap fittings sag in the middle within months.
Bracket spacing matters
Don't trust the supplied two-bracket sets on long spans. Add a centre support — almost always — and fix every bracket into a stud or with an engineering-grade plasterboard fixing.
Hem in situ
Even with accurate measurements, curtains hang in the room differently to how they hang on the maker's table. We mark the final hem after they've been on the pole for a day or two — that's how you get an even kiss to the floor.
