Expert Shower Door Fitting in Horsham

How a proper shower-door installation actually goes — and the small details that decide whether it leaks in six months.

A glass shower door looks like the simplest thing in the world to fit — drill a few holes, screw it up, done. In reality, the small details (substrate behind the tile, packing the frame plumb, choosing the right silicone) decide whether it's still watertight in two years.

Substrate matters

Tile-on-plasterboard, tile-on-cement-board and tile-on-old-grout-and-prayer all behave differently. We tap and check before we drill, and use the right fixing for the layer behind. That's why we'd rather take 20 minutes longer at the start than be back patching cracked tiles later.

Plumb and level — both

Shower trays are rarely perfectly level (some have a deliberate fall to the waste). The frame is plumb to gravity, not to the tray. If we treat it the wrong way around the door swings or doesn't seal at the top — both classic 'cheap fitter' giveaways.

Silicone is finishing, not magic

Silicone is meant to seal a small gap, not bridge an inch. If a fitter is filling huge voids with sealant, the door's in the wrong place. We use sanitary, mould-resistant silicone, masked and tooled in a single bead, and we'll happily come back and check the seals after a couple of weeks if you want.
