Seasonal Home Maintenance Task List
5 November 2025 · 3 min read

A simple, no-nonsense seasonal checklist for keeping a Sussex home in good shape all year — without it taking over your life.
Home maintenance only feels overwhelming because everything tends to fail at once. Spread it across four short seasonal windows and it becomes a manageable hour a fortnight, not a panic.
Spring (Mar–May)
- Inspect external paint, especially window cills facing south.
- Clear gutters before the late spring storms.
- Service or check the boiler if you didn't before winter.
- Touch up scuffs on internal walls — kids and dogs have done their work.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
- Re-seal baths and showers if needed — silicone cures best in warm, dry rooms.
- Treat any external timber (fences, sheds, decking).
- Run an annual deep clean of windows, internal and external.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
- Bleed radiators and check for cold spots.
- Clear gutters again — leaves are the biggest cause of internal damp.
- Check the loft hatch seal and any draughts at external doors.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
- Lag exposed pipes in the loft or garage before a freeze.
- Test smoke and CO alarms.
- Make a list of every small annoyance to tackle in spring.
