What separates a 'fine' paint job from a great one — and the small choices that make rooms feel premium.
Anyone with an arm and a roller can paint a wall the colour you've asked for. The reason some rooms look noticeably better afterwards is everything that happens before and after the paint goes on.
Before
- Furniture pulled out properly, not just shuffled around.
- Holes filled, sanded flush, dust-removed.
- Skirting and architraves caulked into walls — no more dark cracks.
- Right primer for the substrate (new plaster, MDF, bare timber are all different).
During
Quality emulsion, two coats, cut in by hand. Eggshell on woodwork (not gloss — gloss shows every imperfection). A consistent direction of laying off so the sheen reads even.
After
Sockets and switch plates back on straight, dust hoovered, leftover paint labelled with the room name. The handover should feel like the room is yours again, not 'the decorators have gone and we'll clear up tomorrow'.
